Why Do People Keep Saying SEO Is Dead?

I’ve been hearing that SEO is dead for years now, there has been numerous blog posts and articles proclaiming this to be true and they usually appear just after an update is rolled out by Google.

One thing I do agree with is the term SEO should be dead, I think we should be calling it something along the lines of Organic Search Marketing, anyway that’s another topic.

So who are the ones that always proclaim that SEO is dead, well its usually, content marketers, PPC practitioners or social media “Guru’s” and instead of saying this they should realise that these activities should be put together to achieve an effective search marketing campaign for their clients.

Why do the say this though, well I came across this infographic on SEO Book that illustrates who is saying that SEO is dead and why.

SEO is dead.

  1. […] I've been hearing that SEO is dead for years now, there has been numerous blog posts and articles proclaiming this to be true and they usually appear just after an update is rolled out by Google. O…  […]

  2. […] I actually did take a break from blogging on Friday but I published a post on Saturday and earlier today (Sunday) which were both regarding a couple of good infogrphics that I cam across, the first of the two was “20 Point SEO Audit Checklist” and the second was “Why Do People Keep Saying SEO Is Dead?“. […]

  3. It’s dead because new sites will penalized sooner rather than later. My site is 4 months old. It crept to first page then penalized after 7 days on page 1. What should I do? I still don’t know.

    1. It probably wasn’t penalized, Google’s Matt Cutts has said recently that new sites will often rank well for the first couple of months but then may drop down the rankings when they understand how good the site is in relation to its competition. Stick to creating good content and making good use of social media and you should start climbing again. Just do not resort to spammy link building practices.

  4. It’s not a case of if its dead or not, it’s if it is worth investing in, Or would you be better just doing paid advertising? Content marketing and social takes a lot of time and needs rather big budgets to get results, I think over the next few years we will see more and more people move over to a paid model as the big G continues to retain more data (Not provided etc) and penalise sites / police the web.
